The other day, I had lunch with a friend who’s obsessed with bats. Literally. He travels around the world with this guy named Merlin and studies bats.
My bat-obsessed friend sent me some videos from his bat-studier friend, Merlin Tuttle, to watch (he dared me to watch, anyway). The first one I chose had the title “Follow Your Passion When Setting Your Life’s Course.” In the video, Tuttle asks viewers, What if you had a billion dollars and were on a permanent vacation? What would you do with your life?
Clearly, Merlin Tuttle chose to study bats. But what would you choose? What would I choose? Over the past few days, this question has continued to pop up in my head. Over and over. We all have a choice—even if we think we don’t, we do. And there’s no cost to actually considering this question and answering it for yourself.
So as summer comes to a close, be thinking about it! I know I will be.
What if you had a billion dollars and a permanent vacation? What would you do with the rest of your life?
Have a big farm. Hire help. Travel the world in off season. Possibly keep teaching a class a semester (or year…).
Set up community gardens in the poorest areas in this country, and teach people how and what to plant organically. Help them to feed themselves and their children better.
Contribute to health care for poor children. Fund poor kids schools. Contribute to the organic movement to keep good, clean food available. Support small farmers.
Travel more, learn more, be more!
I would buy a beautiful piece of Virginia countryside where my husband could start a vineyard, where I could plant fruit trees and raise a few farm animals, and where we could have a home to raise our young family.
My husband and I would quit working and go back to college for our masters (and maybe even doctors). He would go for viticulture, and I would go for Instructional Design. He would use his education to run our vineyard/winery, and I would use mine to transform education, for adults as well as kids.
We are already working towards these things, but if we had a billion dollars, we could start right away. 🙂 #dreams
What I would and could do with a billion I already said to myself if I had the money before I say what I want is what I could do. I think of the things I went through as a divorced mom of two and the struggles. I would open up a state of the art day care and in this building would build a many city with roads mini houses and have kids learn about finances. I would buy the battery operated cars and they could learn the rules of the road ,how they can own there own car, open up a bank account so they can see what there parents go through. I would have people who need there cars fix cars towed to a special place and have them repaired. Get my mother out of the nursing home, pay off my kids college loan and set up and annuity for them ,500 a week. To all the people who help take my kids to places and practice I was to tired to go to because third shift really took it out of me , give them 100,000. Help people down on there luck like I am and get my name cleared for the legal mess that I got in has me as a felon, I’m not , my public defender sucked. I would help out , I said help out not support my family . I want to go back to school and get my degree in dietician management ,personal trainer , nurse and finally get my black belt in martial arts . I want a nice house not a mansion big enough for my girls to visit when they come , a room full of exercise equipment , a kitchen with all the cooking stuff that will let me eat healthy , 3 racing bikes ,another room to be use as my computer room . I want to learn how to play a keyboard ,guitar and drums
