A few weekends ago was the first-ever Organic Tulip Festival at the Rodale Institute, which happened to coincide with the annual “cold crop” plant sale—which means all the stuff you can plant in your vegetable garden before the frost danger is over. The tulips bloomed early thanks to the warmest March on record. But because we all love spring, no one seemed too worried about global warming. You can pick the tulips, bulb and all, and plant them in your garden for next year, too.
Thanks to our friends at Eco Tulips, Keriann and Jeroen Koeman who are the only suppliers of organic tulip bulbs in the US, we got a little Pennsylvania Dutch taste of a tulip craze! Check out these pictures and head out to the farm if you can, just to see them before they are done blooming. (In their place later this summer will be pick-your-own heirloom vegetables and flowers for cutting!).
I was able to make it to see the tulips- on my birthday! I brought several family members with me and everyone of them had a great time. It was such a gorgeous and relaxing experience.
