“If we wait until we’re ready, we’ll be waiting for the rest of our lives…” —Lemony Snicket
What would it take for you to follow your true calling(s)? Bravery? Financial security? The support of family and friends? Certainty that you wouldn’t fail?
What if you knew that all of that was available, even if you don’t feel ready yet?
Now is the time. To be stepping out into the world with your unique gifts, talents, and abilities. To be following your true calling. To shine your light in the world.
Know that you do have a purpose in this world, one that only you are qualified to fulfill, and that you are truly supported in all ways. You are far more valuable than you give yourself credit for. And your gifts and talents are so needed in this world. Now. Today.
Moving through Fear
Many times, the hardest part is getting out of our own way. We doubt ourselves. We doubt our gifts, talents, and abilities and their value and worthiness in the world—or our value and worthiness in the world.
I share this because I spent a lot of time pushing though fears, tiptoeing around them, or hiding from them—and hiding from the world. In my Bat, er, Robyn Cave.
There comes a point, though, when you just have to do it. You have to step out. Announce yourself. Step into your power. Claim or proclaim your value, worth, and worthiness. And know that your gifts will help others. Know that your gifts and talents will help the world.
Stepping out of our comfort zone can be a scary thing. Revealing our true selves, sharing our beliefs, committing to turn a passion, hobby, or pastime—or a calling—into a career. Committing to a cause, speaking our minds, and sharing our words… In all of these actions we take a risk. But it is oh-so-rewarding on so many levels.
Often, it’s about ego (and personality) versus your soul’s true calling, and somehow balancing the two. It’s also about calming and quieting the inner critic that says, “Who do you think you are to be doing this?” and “You’re not ready yet” and “What will people think when you step out?” And, yes, it’s about moving past the fear.
For me, admitting that I had “superpowers” beyond being a good editor (and a nice person) was a scary thing. Going from an editor-in-chief in the corporate world to an intuitive in the world-at-large was a more than a bit of a challenge for my ego-self.
Yet, the things I feared the most never came to pass. My family and friends still love me (and still admit they know me), I’m still connected with my Facebook friends and LinkedIn contacts, and people at events still talk to me—even after they’ve seen my newest business card. And people I had known from my previous professional incarnations are reaching out and booking sessions. The Universe supported me, even when I wasn’t feeling completely sure or didn’t have 100 percent faith and trust.
I now see fear as energy, just like love (only, the opposite of love). And when it’s fear in front of me, I mold it into an energetic ball, and throw it to the side so that I can keep moving forward. Or sweep it into a dustpan, and set it out on the curb, knowing that I can always go out and pick it up later, if I really am missing it.
Sharing Our Gifts, Shining Our Light
When we make a commitment to something—really, truly make a commitment with our heart, soul, and entire being—the Universe conspires to support us. The Universe gives us the necessary resources, connections, insight, and inspiration.
Imagine a play, with all of the actors/actresses on stage. Even though they are the center of everyone’s attention, there’s a whole lot going on behind the scene (and in the dark moments when the the scenery is being changed). There are people taking care of hair and makeup, costumes, lighting, and set designs. The actors don’t come into the next scene and fall back onto the floor when they sit down—a couch is there, positioned in the perfect place by the people moving things into place in the dark. The Universe is like this. Really!
Once we say yes, the Universe says, “Yes! We’re delighted you’re finally getting on board!” and sets things in motion.
We are never alone in our endeavors, even though some days, weeks, or months, we may feel like it. We are always supported behind the scenes.
The more we trust, in ourselves, in our purpose, mission, or soul calling, the more the Universe supports. Each time we share our gifts, talents, and abilities with the world, the Universe supports. When we are brave and authentic, the Universe supports. And then, anything truly is possible.
