I never quite took to the whole microwave popcorn thing. Sure, it’s easy, but making popcorn from scratch is easy, too—and it tastes so freaking delicious! Even better with real butter! Hmmm, it’s better with butter…isn’t that some sort of ad slogan? If it isn’t yet, it should be. Butter is key. Remember those hideous […]

Classic Deviled Eggs
You know deviled eggs have made a comeback when they’re on almost every hipster menu in America. I love that something like a deviled egg can be a hipster favorite while also being the most coveted item brought to a potluck, usually by an older woman who dishes out advice as good as her food. […]

Banana-Coconut Bread from Scratch (and Damn Quick!)
The other day, my babysitter had dug out my mom’s Banana Bread recipe to make use of some “rotten” bananas. It was yum. A few days later, I still had some old bananas lying around and was craving some coconut. It was a Sunday spring morning, and before I headed out to clean my garage, […]

Therefore, I always make quick breads and muffins in my tiny cupcake tin, making them just the right size to eat three—which is still less calories than eating one […]

Steamed Clams with Browned Butter
Steamed clams are a major Rodale family tradition. And it can’t be any old butter. It’s got to be browned butter! Long before I was born, my grandparents had a clambake for their employees every summer. And I grew up anticipating the yearly treat of a bunch of clams in a net sack, steamed and […]

Banana-Peanut-Chocolate-Coconut Super Cookie!
So I saw this recipe on Facebook for a superhealthy cookie with mashed bananas as the base and I made them (substituting the raisins—blech!—with dried sour cherries—yum!). But they were…not that great. However, I really liked the concept, and I was determined to make them to the whole family’s liking. So I fiddled around and came up with this version that has been deemed Very Good by everyone. Let me know what you think.
