The weather outside is beginning to get frightful around here…which to me is not so delightful. But if I can’t have the heat and sunshine of summer, the next best thing is to bundle up in comfy, cozy, sustainable winter jackets.
Here are five of my favorites. So, bundle up, baby, it’s cold outside!
This is the coolest jacket you will ever own. Made from the softest organic pima cotton, this jacket pulls not just double but triple duty: In a “snap” it easily converts to a vest or a hooded shrug. Featuring a zip front, front pockets, and snap details along the shoulders, this metamorphosing multitasker is ideally suited for transitional weather and makes an excellent travel companion.
2. Cascade Zip-Up Hooded Jacket
Don’t bother stocking up on board games and cheesy movies—cabin fever won’t be an issue this year. Cold weather has met its match in this ultra-warm, ultra-light jacket. The soft recycled polyester exterior fends off light precipitation, while the plush layer of sustainable and highly insulating merino wool maximizes warmth, breathability, and odor control. This durable, form-fitting garment with zippered hand pockets plus interior zip pocket will have you romping in a winter wonderland all season long.
3. Luminary Waterproof Trench Coat
Braving the elements has never looked so good. This waterproof and weatherproof trench combines classic style and high-tech materials. Side and internal pockets keep your essential items protected and secure, yet easily reachable, when you’re running errands in a downpour. The triple-layer recycled polyester is lightweight and breathable, and the front zip shield, fully sealed seams, and a zip-off hood keep you warm, dry, and comfortable no matter what Mother Nature sends your way.
Make this down jacket your new everyday essential for optimal warmth in the cold weather. The recycled polyester shell is ripstop to prevent snags and keep the down feathers from poking out, plus it repels snow and light rain. The goose down lining keeps your core warm and your arms cozy. The snap front reduces bulk, and the asymmetrical quilting creates a tailored fit that keeps the down in place. The collar snaps up so your sensitive neck will stay warm and protected from the elements, while two zippered hand pockets keep your hands and your mittens tucked away. The chest pocket with snap flap is the perfect size to hide a lip balm.
A quick and easy way to stay comfortable in cooler weather is to slip on a plush vest. This form-fitting silhouette adds the warmth without the bulk. It’s lightweight, and the shell is ripstop and downproof, keeping its goose down feathers on the inside and preventing snags of the silky-soft recycled polyester outside. The vest is perfect for traveling when temps change at a moment’s notice. Layer it over sweaters or long-sleeve tees and under coats without adding too much uncomfortable bulk.
