I have suffered from mild carpal tunnel syndrome for years. I tried yoga. I tried all the stretches. I tried pretending it was just a part of getting older. But what started as a little tingle in my right hand turned into a constant ache. Then I found out about a local resource that turns out to be fairly world-renowned. It’s a physical therapy center in Allentown, PA, called Hands on Healing, and founder Suparna Damani has even written a book called It’s Not Carpal Tunnel Syndrome! (Although, for me, it actually is a little bit.)
Her theory is that many repetitive-stress injuries such as carpal tunnel originate and radiate from other parts of the body—a tight neck, or a back out of whack. When I first showed up and was diagnosed, and Suparna said I would have to come 2 to 3 times a week for 3 months, I practically turned around and walked right out the door. I mean, I’m a busy lady! I run a business and I have a 2½-year-old daughter and blah, blah, blah. But I decided to try her therapy program—not knowing what to expect.
Well, I’m now 2 months into it and, frankly, I hope they never make me stop coming to physical therapy. Over the course of many sessions of deep, deep massage in my arm, neck, back, scalp, and sometimes my hand, the therapists have managed to release decades’ worth of stress, tightness, and knots. My ache is completely gone, and so is the tingle—unless I engage in something especially provoking, such as sea kayaking. Sunday, I spent the whole afternoon writing letters, paying bills, and making lists, and there was nary a tingle to be found—which is great, although the prospect of not needing any more treatment is also sad, since therapy is so delightful. This past week, I had two of the therapists working on me at once, and it was one of the highlights of my life.
In Suparna’s lobby there is a map of the world, with pins in it marking all the places people have come from to get her help. People come to Hands on Healing from everywhere, and stay for a few months until Suparna and her therapists have done her magic. I wouldn’t have believed such results were possible, until now.
Its such as you read my thoughts! You appear to grasp a lot about this, such as you wrote the ebook in it or something. I believe that you just could do with some p.c. to force the message home a bit, but other than that, that is fantastic blog. A great read. I will definitely be back.
