Rest: Hibernation
After Christmas, lethargy takes over. It’s the comedown after all the festivities, the settling in to the notion that there are a few long months of winter ahead, and all we might really want is a long winter’s nap. Well, I say, Do it! The magic of this time of year is that it is a little wintry island of rest. Give yourself permission to surrender, to let go—if only for a few hours, but even better, for a day or two. Don’t make a list; don’t run around on errands, just rest.
The world will wait.
Hibernation in total progress here at the Adair household Maria….the cat is tucked into his favorite leopard blanket. I got the Diet Mountain Dew in the fridge and the food stocked.
Looking forward to Law & Order reruns with Jerry Orbach and aligning my budget for 2014. It’ll be nice to get some writing done too. Glad the weather here in Florida is overcast….can’t feel guilty staying home when the skies aren’t sunny at the beach:))
I’m still doing winter chores outside. There are 2 full months left of winter. Time is moving fast, and I am trying to get the most out of winter before spring. I, for the first time in a long time, almost have the yard to where I want it to be before everything starts greening up and blooming. Once I finish trimming some tree branches and cutting back the hydrangeas, I’m done until spring. Just received my first catalog of seeds, plants and gardening equipment in the mail on Tuesday. I think that I will be ahead of myself this year in planning the coming growing season. So, bring on more snow, (which we got today) I am going to relax with organic herbal teas and homemade cookies and plan, plan, plan, then get some reading done by the fire. I’m loving it!
Since I retired 5 1/2 years ago, I hibernate quite a bit. Not necessarily sleeping, but staying close to home, wrapped up in a good book, with a view of the Rockies out the window, when my eyes need to refocus from my book. It helps me to really appreciate the ‘little’ things in life, that being busy can overshadow. And so many of those ‘little’ things are so precious! Slowing down deepens my gratefulness for life.
